My friend’s new blog.

Hey! This is just a quick post to let you know about the new blog my friend Kate made! It’s called The Nerdy Novelty and you can check it out HERE. She is completely new to wordpress and stuff so she deserves some support.

That’s all,

August Book Haul & where have I been? -Yasmin

HEY GUYS! So after months of not blogging, I’ve finally come around to write another post. I’m gonna be hauling all the books I got in August!

If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been and why my GR’s disappeared, here’s a quick explanation. So I haven’t been blogging because I was in Asia for the WHOLE summer! I could’ve blogged a little bit, but I was meeting and gathering with family so my online life took a backseat.
I deleted my Goodreads because it got to be really unhealthy for me, and I spend too much time on the site. Now I have an account SOLELY to add books I want to read, & be able to look at ratings/reviews. But I no longer am writing GR’s reviews! 😦

ANYWAYS, here are all the books I got in August! (Most are from online because I’m still in Asia haha)

First off, I got Charm & Strange by Stephanie Kuehn. I’ve heard great things about this book and thought I’d give it a read! From what I’ve gathered its a dark, paranormal thriller.

Apparently Susan Dennard and SJM are BFF’s so obviously I’m gonna try Truthwitch! I’ve heard mixed things, but the premise sounds promising.

All The Rage is apparently a rape story and after reading a few poignant and emotional reviews, I immediately got it. I’m interested to read it.

I’m not exactly sure why I got this book, but the cover is really really gorgeous and I am a huge fantasy lover! But it seems like a very romance-y and trope-y book. 😦

I’m trying to read some more contemporary/realistic fiction and this book sounds amazing. I’ve also read many glowing reviews!

I, personally, do not struggle with anxiety but I know many people do. Finding Audrey was really hyped a few months ago and I’m excited to read it!

I know that Paige read this and really liked it! It sounds dark and mysterious (which I love).

I read ACOTAR over a year ago and it was meh but apparently this book is AMAZING. I didn’t actually plan on getting this until I reread ACOTAR so I added it to my Amazon “later” cart, and then my dad just ordered it. O.O

I don’t believe this requires an explanation haha.

Funny story. So about a year ago I got The Raven Boys as an ebook and I ended up giving it 2 stars. But this summer I tried again and really enjoyed it! So in Malaysia, I went to the bookstore and got the rest of the series. ^-^

Challenger Deep is a book I got at the end of July but I’m just adding it here haha. I LOVED IT. It was a brilliant book about mental illness told through a dual perspective, one from real life, and the other was a dreamscape made up by the MC. I would 5/5 recommend!

My mom and I both wanted to read this book so when I saw it I decided to get it. I’ve heard super mixed things, but my godmother recommended it to me, so I want to give it a try anyways. ^-^

I got this in the August OwlCrate box! Thanks so much to Crate Joy for sending it to me. ^-^

AND those are all the books I got in the month of August! Hope you didn’t mind my extended absence. I’m ready to get back into blogging, though!

Burning Books (+ Yasmin is back from the dead!)

Hey guys! After a LONG LONG LONG time, it’s me, Yasmin. I’m so sorry that I left for over a month with not even a goodbye or update. My life has been a complete mess and I’ve been so busy with school and finals! I hope to be able to blog and review consistently again! Anyways, today, I’m gonna burn some books. Well… kind of. I was tagged by Mariana over at Book is Glee to do the burn, rewrite, and reread tag!

  • Randomly choose 3 books (Tip: Use the “Sort > Random” option on your Goodreads’ Read shelf.).
  • For each group, decide which book to burn, which one to rewrite, and which to reread (a lot like Kiss, Marry, Kill).
  • Repeat until you completed three rounds (or six).

Round One

Okay this is sort of hard because I gave all these books 3 stars haha.

Burn: Four by Veronica Roth

I didn’t hate Four, but it definitely was a lot worse than I hoped it would be.

Rewrite: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling

That book was, and read like a textbook. I would add more of the notes from Harry, Ron and Hermione in the margins if there was ever a chance that it could be rewritten.

Reread: The Hostile Hospital by Lemony Snicket

The Series of Unfortunate events is definitely one of the series that got little me into reading! Speaking of, I definitely should reread it soon.

Round Two

Burn: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I’ll probably get so much hate for this haha but yes, I didn’t like The Raven Boys. I don’t completely understand what everyone raves about! It wasn’t a horrible book, but for me it wasn’t anywhere near great either.

Rewrite: The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan

I liked the Kane Chronicles but I thought that the narration was so weird. So if they could be rewritten that’s definitely what I would change.

Reread: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

I don’t think this really needs much explaining but the Percy Jackson books will forever be some of my favorites.

Round Three

This is also kind of hard because again, I liked all of these books.

Burn: NEED by Joelle Charbonneau

I received NEED as an ARC and while I did like it there were a lot of flaws.

Rewrite: The Archived by Victoria Schwab

I’m not really entirely sure what I’d rewrite since I gave The Archived 4 1/2 stars and I honestly don’t remember why I lowered the rating haha. XD

Reread: The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen

TFP was a VERY middle grade book, but holy crap, it was amazing. THAT ENDING THOUGH. It still blows my mind.

That’s it! I hope you liked reading about me “burn” books haha. Anyways, again, I’m so sorry for my extended absence! I will try to start blogging regularly again. And thanks to Paige for taking over and posting while I was away. Hope you all are doing well!

Top 5 Wednesday – Rainy Day Reads

oie_QT65sxgKZcFWHey guys, today I’m doing another top 5 Wednesday post. 🙂 As always, t5w was created by gingerreadslainey on youtube. You can join the GR’s group for topics and more here. This week’s topic is your top 5 rainy day reads. I interpret rainy day reads as books that are “must-read-in-one-sitting”, or more melancholy/thought provoking books that reflect the weather. But that’s me.

Quitting this blog. – Yasmin

Hey guys. So, after some very careful consideration, I’ve decided that book blogging is not my thing. I think it’s time for me to leave. As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve been super inactive lately, and that’s not because I’m busy, it’s because I hate the pressure of having to post. In fact, I’ve found that I dislike this blog. (with all due respect to Paige)

So… I’ve decided to leave. Although I’ve only had this blog for what, 4-5ish months, it’s really just not my thing. Anyways, I love you all so much and thank you for all the support that you’ve given me! But I really think my time in this community has expired.

Thanks for the memories.

(haha just kidding. i love this blog and Paige and everyone. i definitely won’t be leaving it any time soon. happy April Fools Day! comment any pranks you’ve pulled on your friends/family)

Overdue February Wrap-Up

Hey guys! It’s Yasmin. Yes, I know, I haven’t made a blog post in who knows how long I’ve just been really busy with school and other life stuff, but I hope to be much more active from now on. 🙂 Anyways, here is my way overdue February wrap-up!

Compared to my whopping amount of 18 books in January, I only read 12 in February. Still good, but not as good as I wished haha. Well anyways, lets just get into it. 🙂

Book Traveling Thursdays – An underhyped book.

oie_Peta0smZ2kAtBook traveling Thursday is a weekly book meme hosted by Catia and Danielle. In short, there is a topic, and you chose a book for it, then show editions from around the world of that book. So, this weeks topic is an underhyped book. I chose The False Prince by Jenifer A. Nielsen. (this book is fairly popular, but I still think it deserves more hype than it receives. i’m sure quite a few people reading this will recognize it.)

Indonesian version (at least I think so):

Spain/Latin America:

Okay that’s it! If you have any corrections, please feel free to tell me! This was all based off of Goodreads/google translate haha. Hope you liked this post

Leave a comment about an underhyped book you loved. Share the love 🙂 PERFECT

Stacking the Shelves – 02/20/16

Hey guys! It’s Yasmin. Today I’m doing a weekly meme, stacking the shelves, which was created by Tygna’s Reviews. Basically, every week on Saturday you post about the books you’ve currently added to your shelf – whether you bought a book, checked some out from the library, purchased it on your Kindle, etc.

Books I purchased this week

PicMonkey Collage

I bought 3 books this week!! Which is way more than I usually would buy, but my Dad got me Calamity for Valentines day (best present ever), and I got Before I Fall and Salt to the Sea from a used bookstore. I haven’t finished Calamity yet, but I gave 5 stars to Before I Fall, and 4.5 to Salt to the Sea.

I didn’t get any library books (and usually I get 5 ish a week) but I’m currently in Utah on a snowboarding vacation. 🙂

Well that’s it! Comment below any books you got this week. 😀

Top 5 Wednesday – Favorite recommended books.

oie_QT65sxgKZcFWHey guys! It’s Yasmin. Today I’m doing Top 5 Wednesday, a meme created by Ginger Reads Lainey (on YT). Click here if you want to join and make your own posts! ^-^

This week’s topic is your top 5 favorite books that were recommended to you.

5. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
My aunt, who lives in Malaysia, recommended me this book a few years ago, but up until a few months ago, I never read it. I would give this book 4 1/2 stars. I thought it was a fantastic book. I know a lot of people hated it, but I really enjoyed it.

4. The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen
One of my best friends sister recommended me this book, so I went and got it from the library. I ended up flying through it in one sitting, and loving it! It’s a very middle grade book, but the ending is so brilliant. I gave this 5/5 stars on GR’s. 🙂

3. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan
My 5th grade teacher pushed this book onto me so many times and I, for some reason, didn’t read it until the end of 6th grade. I really should’ve listened to that teacher earlier. I love the Percy Jackson series. It’s probably on my top 10 favorites ever.

2. Divergent by Veronica Roth
I read Divergent quite a while ago, and I’m proud to say that I beat the bookish community to the series. A family friend of mine gave me the first book and he told me that it was a great book and I should read it. Divergent is probably the series that really got me into reading. I even read it before the Harry Potter series.

1. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

If we’re being real here, I thought the Harry Potter series was stupid for a really long time. My dad had been telling me to read it, but I still thought it was stupid. Boy was I wrong. Thanks Dad for my childhood in more ways than one.

That’s it! What’s your favorite book that someone recommended you? Leave a comment below!

Also, if you haven’t already heard, I made another more personal blog, A Book Unicorn, and it would mean a lot if you could follow it. ^-^
